Camp Cayuga's educational methodology is entirely experiential and non-competitive, focusing on skill acquisition and personal enjoyment rather than formal academics. Instruction is provided in small, personalized settings by trained activity specialists, including professional educators, coaches, and skilled college-aged counselors. The camper-to-staff ratio is an excellent 1:4, ensuring attentive guidance. Each activity period lasts about one hour and blends hands-on instruction with recreational practice, allowing campers to learn at their own pace in a supportive environment. The camp utilizes extensive, top-quality facilities and materials as the foundation for its lessons. From professional-grade pottery wheels and kilns in the art centers, to a full equestrian stable, 10 tennis courts, a high-flying trapeze rig, and a private lake with a fleet of watercraft, the infrastructure supports deep and authentic learning. Lessons are structured yet flexible, emphasizing safety, patience, and the development of self-confidence. Whether mastering a new swim stroke, creating a ceramic sculpture, or learning to canter on horseback, the focus is on progressive achievement and the sheer joy of participation.
The essence of the Camp Cayuga experience is a holistic, activity-based summer program dedicated to building life skills, confidence, and community through hands-on exploration and fun in a supportive, natural environment.
