About

About the Course

The academic programme focuses on communicative English, ensuring students gain practical language skills. It consists of 20 lessons (45 minutes each) per week, taught by qualified and friendly teachers. Classes are held in the morning or afternoon in spacious, well-equipped classrooms. A placement test on arrival ensures students are grouped into classes of approximately 17, according to their level, age, and nationality mix. The curriculum emphasizes real-world communication, speaking, and listening, while also covering grammar and writing, all within a fun and engaging learning environment.

What’s Included

The base package includes English lessons, on-campus accommodation in single en-suite rooms, full-board meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), a full programme of on-site activities and scheduled excursions (both half-day and full-day), an arrival transfer from specified airports, and access to all campus facilities. Optional excursions (e.g., London Eye, Madame Tussauds) are available at an additional cost. A refundable accommodation deposit (£30/€40) is required upon arrival. Guard.me insurance is available for purchase if needed.

Accommodation

Students stay in modern on-campus university residences. Accommodation is in single rooms with private en-suite bathrooms, each equipped with a desk, chair, wardrobe, and bed linen. Rooms are cleaned weekly (towels not provided). Buildings offer free Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, lifts, and 24-hour security with CCTV. A night supervisor ensures safety overnight. The campus provides a safe, supervised, and comfortable living environment.

Meal Plan

The programme offers full-board accommodation. All meals are provided in the campus canteen during set times, with a packed lunch at weekends. Breakfast includes hot and continental options. Lunch and dinner typically offer two choices, including a vegetarian option. The centre caters to most dietary requirements (e.g., allergies) if informed accurately in advance. Students are responsible for clearing their trays.

Activities & Excursions

The experience is packed with diverse activities and excursions designed for fun, cultural immersion, and socializing. On-site activities include sports (football, basketball, volleyball), creative workshops (scrapbooking, Trashion show), games, and evening events like discos, karaoke, and film nights. Excursions visit historic and cultural sites such as London, Cambridge, Brighton, Dover's white cliffs, Leeds Castle, and local towns like Whitstable and Rochester. The programme balances education, exploration, and entertainment.

Facilities

The centre utilises the excellent facilities of the University of Kent campus. This includes modern classrooms, extensive outdoor sports fields and spaces, student social lounges, a self-service launderette, and free Wi-Fi throughout. The campus itself is ecologically diverse with woodlands and meadows. For excursions, students access local transport, beaches, museums, galleries, and historic landmarks in Canterbury and beyond.

I like it. It's like a maze though. Easy to get lost. I like the dining hall. Nothing fancy but decent. Recommend the wok bar.

As a first year student, this is like a rabbit warren and very confusing getting to the appropriate classroom. And with a walking disability rather hard work getting about.

Not great. Feels like a prison. Room on the top floor had nice views though.

  • Sally Harris
