The learning process follows an 'Active English' methodology that ensures language acquisition happens throughout the day, not just in the classroom. Mornings focus on core skills including speaking, listening, reading, writing, and academic vocabulary. Afternoons put these skills to the test through 'The Malvern Challenge' – a series of collaborative tasks designed to build confidence. Students practise English naturally through meaningful projects, cultural exploration, and daily interaction with peers from over 20 countries. First-day assessments ensure students learn with classmates at a similar level, while the flexible approach means beginners receive foundational support and advanced speakers are challenged appropriately. Taught by Malvern College's own EAL specialists who understand how international students learn best, every lesson is designed to build confidence alongside competence. The programme welcomes all levels from complete beginners to advanced learners. Students enjoy projects such as interviewing local people in Malvern's charming town centre, creating a brand-new sport and presenting it to classmates, collaborating in groups to research and share ideas in English, and creating brochures and maps to learn about the local area. Students return home thinking and communicating confidently in English, with the ability to use English in real-life situations.
The course is focused on building practical communication skills, fluency, and confidence through project-based learning and real-world cultural experiences in an immersive English-speaking environment.
