Summer Residential Camp

Camps d’aventure

Nestled in the Somerset countryside, Mill on the Brue has been running week‑long summer adventure camps since 1982. With a large zip wire, high ropes course, and a river flowing through the grounds, the camp offers a true “home from home” atmosphere just a stone’s throw from nature. Children sleep in cosy bedrooms with bunk beds – most en suite – in the main Victorian house, a converted barn, or garden cabins, all set within a peaceful, rural estate. Designed for unaccompanied children aged 8 to 15, the camp provides a full programme of at least six outdoor activities every day, from abseiling and archery to canoeing, bushcraft, raft building, and the famous water slide. All meals are home‑cooked using locally sourced ingredients and vegetables from the camp’s own garden, with special diets catered for. The main goal is to give every child an enormous amount of fun, help them learn new skills, build confidence, and make lasting friendships – all without a single screen in sight.

À propos du cours

The camp follows an experiential, outdoor‑based learning approach with a focus on fun, teamwork, and building confidence. There are no traditional language or grammar lessons. Children are divided into groups of approximately 12, grouped by age. Each group stays with the same two instructors (one female, one male) for the whole week. The programme is intensive: at least six activities are offered every day, designed to encourage independence, challenge participants, and develop new skills.

Ce qui est inclus

The package includes all meals, accommodation, at least six activities every day, 24‑hour on‑site staff support, and full use of camp facilities. A non‑refundable deposit is required at booking. Optional extras available for an additional charge: staying the Saturday evening and Sunday morning between two weeks (for children staying for two weeks), a seat on the private coach from London (one‑way or return), and ordering T‑shirts or hoodies. Pocket money for the tuck shop is recommended.

Hébergement

Children sleep in bedrooms located in the main Victorian house, the Clubhouse (a converted barn), or the Garden Cabins. Restauration

All meals are included (full board). Food is home‑cooked, locally sourced, with most vegetables grown in the camp’s own garden. Special diets (e.g., dairy‑free, coeliac) are catered for – the kitchen is made aware at mealtimes by the group leader. Each Friday there is a themed banquet.

The camp focuses on building confidence,

Each day, children take part in at least six instructor‑led activities, ranging from high‑adventure challenges (zip wire, climbing tower, leap of faith, high ropes) to team‑building tasks (raft building, assault course, wide games) and creative or nature‑based sessions (bushcraft, animal feeding, garden to table, crafts). Groups are kept small – approximately 12 children of similar age – ensuring every child receives individual attention and encouragement from their two dedicated instructors. No textbooks or formal materials are used; instead, learning happens through direct experience, risk‑taking in a safe environment, and guided reflection. The weekly programme is carefully structured to balance energetic outdoor challenges, water activities (canoeing, water slide, swimming, raft building), evening entertainments (disco, escape room, campfire gatherings), and quieter skill‑building sessions (archery, axe throwing, orienteering, pizza making). Children are encouraged to try new activities, overcome fears, and work as a team. The oldest group (the “Otters”) also takes part in a special 24‑hour challenge that includes map reading, hiking, bushcraft, abseiling, and paddle boarding.

The camp focuses on building confidence, independence, teamwork, and practical outdoor skills through a screen‑free, fun‑filled adventure programme. At least 6 activity sessions per day, running from Sunday afternoon to Saturday afternoon (6 days).
