Parent Value Guide

A Tutor Gives Lessons. A Camp Gives Your Child an Environment.

Tutoring can help with lessons, but camp can give your child a full setting for growth: routine, friends, activities, language practice, supervision and independence.

If you are comparing summer camp with extra tutoring, the real question is not only “how many lesson hours will my child get?”

Tutoring can be useful when a child needs focused academic support. But a summer camp is a different kind of investment. It can combine learning with daily routine, peer interaction, sport, activities, meals, accommodation, supervision and independence.

For many parents, the value of camp is not only in the classroom. It is in the environment: children practise communication, follow a schedule, meet new friends, try activities, solve small daily problems and experience a wider world outside their usual routine.

This guide helps you compare tutoring and camp more fairly, so you can decide whether your child needs more lessons — or a structured environment that supports learning, confidence and social growth at the same time.

Based on CampsBooking’s camp database, parent decision factors and common questions about summer learning, value and child development.

Key Takeaways

Why Parents Choose This

A Full Environment, Not Just Lesson Time

Tutoring usually gives a child one focused learning session. Camp can create a full daily environment where learning, routine, activities, meals, sport and social interaction happen together.

Friends, Confidence and Communication

Many children need more than academic progress. Camp gives them chances to speak, join activities, meet other children and practise independence away from their usual routine.

Structure Without Managing Everything Separately

Instead of organising separate tutors, activities, meals, transport and supervision, parents can compare one structured camp environment and see what is already included.

A Wider View of the World

Camp can help children discover new places, cultures, schedules, people and expectations — not only another lesson after school.

The strongest camp value is not only academic. It is the combination of learning, social growth, independence, routine, sport, supervision and a wider view of the world.

Understanding the Real Value of Camp

Parents often compare camp prices with tutoring fees. But this is not a like-for-like comparison. A tutor gives lesson time. A residential or full-day camp can combine learning, daily routine, meals, accommodation, supervision, sport, activities, excursions, social life and independence in one structured environment.

What Camp Fees May Include

  • Lessons or educational workshops
  • Daily routine and supervised activities
  • Meals and, for residential camps, accommodation
  • Sport, excursions or creative activities
  • Peer interaction and social experience
  • Pastoral care, supervision and safety procedures

What Affects the Price

  • Format and location

Residential camps, day camps, city campuses, mountain programs and premium school settings can have different cost structures.

  • Duration and intensity

A one-week program, a two-week residential camp and a full academic-style course should not be compared only by headline price.

  • What is included

Meals, accommodation, excursions, airport transfers, sport, supervision and specialist activities can change the real value of the program.

How Parents Should Compare Value

  • Compare the full environment, not only classroom hours.
  • Check what is included before comparing prices.
  • Look at age fit, supervision, accommodation, transfers and daily structure.
  • Use CampsBooking to compare suitable camp options and ask for help shortlisting if the choice feels overwhelming.

A tutor gives lessons. A camp gives your child an environment. For many families, that wider environment is the real value: language practice, friends, routine, sport, independence and a broader view of the world.

  • Family English Summer Camp in London Highgate

Hello I’m Christopher from Taiwan 🇹🇼 I had studied at this school for half a year I really love everything in the school Rachel, Anna, and Susana were especially important to me — they not only helped me greatly with my English, but also provided emotional support during my time at the school!!🥰 And my first teacher Darren! He is a nice teacher 👍 I’m truly grateful to all the staff, teachers, and classmates here for giving me such beautiful memories that I will always treasure. I’ll be back — see you soon!”😆

  • English Summer Camp for Teens at University of East London

I’ve really enjoyed my experience studying at University of East London. The university has a welcoming and diverse environment where students from many different backgrounds feel included and supported. The lecturers are friendly, approachable, and always willing to help when you need extra guidance, which has made learning much easier and more enjoyable for me. They are always creating opportunities that can be tailored towards your courses and some time relate to other things like building a strong CV.

  • Language Summer Camp for Juniors and Teens in Montreal

I studied at BLI Montreal for six weeks in the super intensive program (from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), and I had a very positive experience. The teachers were excellent, especially Jennifer, who was the teacher I had the most. It’s truly enjoyable to learn with a passionate teacher. You can feel when someone loves teaching, and it makes a huge difference. Honestly, if I had teachers like her throughout my school years, I would probably speak much better English today. I really liked the structure of the program. In the morning, we focused more on grammar, which helped me build a strong foundation. In the afternoon, we practiced more conversation, which was great for improving confidence and speaking skills. Overall, I am very satisfied with my experience and would definitely recommend this school.

  • English Summer School London Central

Just finished a course there and it was one of the best experiences of my life! I’ve learned so so so much, the classes were so diverse and funny and I could also learn with my classmates from different countries. It was a dream come true, the school is just amazing! And teacher Gavin is the BEST! Telling us all those interesting things about the country and the language, showing us music and food that we had never seen before… Every class was a new experience of learning! I’m very grateful for everyone at LSI 🤍

  • Camp Champions

Today we met with Camp Director Phyllis for a tour and was immediately greeted with hugs, warmth, and a comforting welcome! Phyllis is knowledgeable of the camps history and grounds and answered all of my mama heart questions with professionalism and genuine joy! My daughter was very excited and the tour helped to seal the deal on her request to go to an away camp for summer. The glistening lake views were also a winning factor for her! I’m very excited for what’s to come for my little one and can only hope that her summer will be as smooth and pleasant as our lovely introduction with Phyllis!

  • English Summer Camp for Teens at University of East London

I completed my MBA at this campus, and my overall experience has been very good. The academic environment was supportive, with knowledgeable faculty who encouraged practical learning and critical thinking. The campus provided ample opportunities for professional growth through projects, presentations, and collaborative activities. In addition, the infrastructure and resources contributed positively to both academic and personal development, making my time here a valuable and rewarding experience.

  • English Summer School London Central

LSI London Central was the best place for me to improve my English in London. The course with our teacher Gavin was interesting, varied and fun. He explained everything very well and we also learned a lot about the London culture, activities, etc. which was perfect. The office and the other teachers were very friendly and we had a good connection to them. The social program offers an interesting variety of activities. My classmates were so nice and open-minded, so I made new friends and we had an amazing time together :)) The school is perfectly located (many train stations, parks, pubs, other schools nearby).

  • English Summer Camp for Teens at Mediterranean College of Sport

Our son joined the school this scholastic year as a first-year sixth form student ... as likely mentioned by other parents, a bit of a shot in the dark, since the school is a relatively "young" one ... but it was a natural choice, him being very sports-orientated. Our experience so far ... extremely positive! Our Andrew attends happily, returns home satisfied. Teachers & coaches, administrative staff, all very helpful, committed & dedicated. The premises, state of the art. Facilities, top-notch. The atmosphere ... relaxed but focused. 2 very happy parents & 1 happy teen.

  • English Summer Camp for Teens at Mediterranean College of Sport

It came to my knowledge how dedicated the college is towards their athlete students especially when my daughter needed to travel with her club on 2 occasions. I informed the teachers prior and they were so supportive and even spoke to my daughter and messaged accordingly with any school work and homework that she will have. They also gave her enough time to submit her work and also any missed assessments were carried out after competition with enough time to be well prepared. It helps a lot both to us parents as of course we always feel concerned when missing out on school days. Our daughter didn’t not feel panicked and within a few days she was back on track very smoothly. Keep it up !

  • German Summer Courses for Teenagers in Vienna

Everything was pretty clean, the stuff is friendly, the food is fresh and the place itself is great for the money we paid comparable to the Vienna rent prices, I was a little bit afraid after I saw the Google Maps rating, but gladly didn't face any of the problems some people wrote about My main complain was mainly about the socket too far away from the bed 😄 There are USB-A types of connectors near, but unfortunately we had only USB-C with us, so take it in consideration if it's important for you. The light in the personal toilet should be replaced probably, and would be nice to have at least a small bottle of shampoo. The location is pretty far from the center, BUT it's close to the tram station that we used all the time, so not a big deal as well
